Edward C. Harper is a distinguished personal injury trial attorney known for his leadership, legal expertise, and deep commitment to civic education and community service. He currently serves as Co-Dean and Faculty Member of the Keenan Trial Institute, where he helps shape the next generation of trial attorneys through rigorous, experience-based instruction.
In recognition of his dedication to mentorship and the legal profession, Ed was named a finalist for the King County Bar Association's 2025 Mentor of the Year award on March 27, 2025.
Outside the courtroom, Ed is passionate about educating young people on the principles of democracy and citizenship. He teaches high school civics at Covenant Christian High School in Issaquah, where he leads a course titled “What It Means to Be a Good Citizen – Knowing the Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship.”
Ed and his wife, Marcia, were married in 1991 and enjoy an ever-growing family that includes four cherished grandchildren. The Harpers are active members of their church in Issaquah and have both held leadership roles within the congregation.
A long-standing advocate for community engagement, Ed is a founding board member of both the Bellevue Farmers Market and Hineni Ministries. He has also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 3:16 of the Boy Scouts of America. An avid supporter of youth sports, Ed has volunteered extensively as a USA Swimming official, sharing a lifelong family passion for the sport.
With a rich history of teaching U.S. History and Civics and mentoring others in law and life, Ed Harper continues to make a meaningful impact in the courtroom, the classroom, and the community.
Ed grew up in Eagle Rock, a small suburb of Los Angeles, and eventually moved with his family to the beach town of San Clemente, California. He has roots to the Northwest that stretch back to the 19th century.
Ed developed a passion for golf at a young age and began playing competitively in high school. He went on to play at Saddleback Junior College in California where he led the team to the State Championship in 1983. He subsequently attended the University of Southern California where he was the Captain of the 1986 Pacific 10 Championship team. Following college, Ed played golf professionally for the Australian PGA golf tour for approximately one year in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. A wrist injury forced his early retirement from the professional ranks.
Ed turned his sights to law school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California in 1991. He worked for three years in Newport Beach, California, handling all aspects of personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Eventually, Ed moved to Bellevue, Washington, where he worked in Seattle for a number of years practicing personal injury law. He then started his own firm, Harper Law, PLLC, which was originally located in Bothell, Washington but has since relocated to Kirkland, Washington.
